Mississippi Death Records Only deaths recorded after November 1, 1912, are on file. For earlier records, contact the Department of Archives & History. Mississippi Vital Records are limited to vital events which occurred within the boundaries of the state. Mississippi Vital Records are considered "limited public access" documents, you can access your records but others cannot without cause. All requests for Vital Recods must show a "legitimate and tangible interest" in that document. The original record always remains the property of the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Certified Copy has the only legal value. Errors in Vital Records can be corrected.
